He won an outstanding soloist award at the Greeley Jazz Festival for his role as the “Dragon” in Steve Wiest’s composition “Ork Vs. When he is not teaching you can find him performing at local jam sessions and playing jazz gigs in downtown Denver as well as performing in local theatre production companies playing various woodwinds in the pit orchestras.
My approach to teaching has come from working with kids of all ages for many years. Each student is unique and I try to meet them where they are at while also pushing them in the right direction.
My primary objective is cultivate a productive learning environment that also maintains the fun and joy of playing am instrument.
One thing I like to focus on with my students is internalizing music through movement of the body. If I song is in a unique time signature (odd meter for example) I will make my student walk around the room on all the strong beats while singing the melody, then all the offbeats, etc.
Rock - Coldplay

“Sometimes you have to play a long time to be able to play like yourself.” - Miles Davis
I began listening to jazz before he could walk, bouncing to the beats of David Sandborn as a one-year-old. It was only a matter of time before I caught the bug. I started playing the saxophone in 2007 taking lessons at the Levine School taking lessons from Navy Commodores unit leader, William C. Mulligan. I continued to study classically into high school and began studying jazz as well under prolific Maryland educator and performer Paul Carr. Since then I have not lost my love for playing and I hope to be able to share that joy with the next generation of amazing musicians!
