Kyle Dacon
“It is the artists of the world, the feelers and the thinkers who will ultimately save us; who can articulate, educate, defy, insist, sing and shout the big dreams.”
About Kyle
Kyle is a 24-year-old pianist from Garland, Texas, just northeast of Dallas. He recently moved to the Boulder area to begin a Doctorate in musical arts at the University of Colorado. Kyle completed his Bachelor of Music degree at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, before moving back home to obtain his Master of Music degree at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he graduated in May of 2024.
Kyle has competed in various competitions across the United States and has a passion for performing. Kyle has also participated in international music festivals in both Spain and Italy, where he studied with many esteemed professors from schools such as Northwestern University in Chicago, The University of Michigan, The University of Montreal, Florida State University, and many other institutions.
Aside from the piano, Kyle is a devoted choral musician and has toured with choirs across the U.S. as both a pianist and singer, performing in venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Severance Hall in Cleveland, and the Strathmore Center in Washington D.C.. In his free time, Kyle loves to watch sports, especially football, basketball, and soccer. He is also a passionate foodie who enjoys cooking at home alone or with friends, as well as going out and trying new cuisines whenever possible. Kyle hopes to build a studio full of passionate players of all ages and create a collaborative environment where we can all get better together!
Kyle’s Instructional Approach
He recognizes that many students are interested in a multitude of genres, and works to select repertoire that is both fun and challenging. He also believes the ability to improvise is a key component of musical education and works individually with students to build up that skill.
Lessons with Kyle will consist of several activities designed to increase students’ ability to read, write, play, and perform music they are passionate about.
Practice Tips
- Start slow and gradually build up to performance speed.
- Watch your hands as much as possible.
- Trust your ear and go after the sounds that please you.
- Don’t forget your posture. Sit up straight on the edge of the bench and not too close where your elbows aren’t in front of you.
- Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
- Reward yourself when things go well! This could mean having a sweet treat after a good practice session or stopping by your favorite coffee shop after a successful lesson. Self-positive reinforcement works!
